Promoting and improving safety performance and ensuring safety at the workplace are a key commitment for Synergis Holdings.
Its achievements in this area won further recognition in July when Synergis received the Gold Award for Best Property Management Company from the Occupational Safety and Health Council for Tai Wo Estate in Tai Po.
The "Construction Safety Forum and Award Presentation" scheme aims to recognise organisations and employees with remarkable occupational safety and health results, and raise safety and health awareness among industry players.
It also seeks to encourage all sector members to join hands to foster a safe and healthy culture.
According to Dr C.H. Fan, managing director of Synergis, his company's objective is not only to achieve full compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and contractual requirements, but also to adopt viable and progressive practices.
Under its safety and health management system, all managers and frontline staff are trained on safety management and handling of high-risk activities.
Fan says Synergis' safety and health management system has achieved OHSAS 18001 standard, a key benchmark in the property management industry.
Sites managed by the company are also subject to annual external and internal audits to ensure sustained improvements.
"Our target for fatal and serious accidents must be - and is - zero," says Fan.
Synergis also organises a "Vision Day" every year. This is an in-house and large-scale staff programme that aims to enhance efficiency and improve work safety through case sharing and presentation. Staff from various sites present their latest initiatives in this field and the management then chooses a winning team.
Safety and health is one of four key areas in the company's corporate social responsibility policy, Fan adds.
Another is caring for the environment, which involves developing and improving environmental management practices so as to minimise waste, maximise efficiencies and reduce impacts on the environment.
The third focus involves caring for its workers - being sensitive to the needs and aspirations of its staff and equitable in its dealings with them, providing a safe, congenial and healthy working environment and positive opportunities for growth and advancement.
Finally, Synergis highlights caring for the community - showing sensitivity to cultural diversity and making positive and tangible contributions to assist worthwhile social causes.
"All Synergis staff are required to abide by the principles espoused in this policy and should actively encourage the participation of other stakeholders," says Fan.
