Information Technology
According to the latest Hudson Report: Employment Trends Q1 2013, information technology (IT) is the most positive industry in the Hong Kong employment market in terms of hiring intentions.
Tony Pownall, general manager of Hudson Hong Kong, says positive hiring intentions across the board are being driving by the IT industry, with positive hiring in the sector up 11.3 percentage points to 62.5 per cent.
"Hiring in IT is being driven by demand from businesses seeking to improve both efficiency and profitability via technology. Restrictions around permanent hiring among some multinational corporations are also resulting in increased demand for vendor services and the outsourcing of core IT functions," he says.
The report pointed out that solutions architect is one of the most in-demand roles, with plenty of positions available for professionals with the right skills.
The need for digital skills is also driving demand, with an increase in strategic, creative and technical roles seen across all industries.
Stephen Lau, president of the Hong Kong Computer Society, says that IT has gradually penetrated every industry. Society is getting more and more reliant on IT, so companies are willing to invest more resources in this area.
