The HKICPA Career Forum 2012 will feature the latest accounting trends, information and insights designed to help prospective accountants and new entrants succeed in the profession.
"The forum provides a golden chance to learn about the broad spectrum of the accounting profession, the attributes employers are looking for, and the various expectations and challenges those coming into the profession may encounter," says Susanna Chiu, HKICPA vice-president and chairwoman of the Career Forum Advisory Panel.
Chiu says the structure of the Career Forum, which is now in its fifth year, evolves annually and reflects suggestions from students to better address their needs. A series of career-orientated workshops, for example, will provide participants with insights into the life of an accounting associate and a typical career path within a Big Four firm. "This will be a rare opportunity for participants to listen and talk to representatives from Big Four firms in one room," Chiu says.
For an alternate perspective, another workshop will highlight the training and work aspects young professionals can expect from working in small and medium-sized certified public accountant (CPA) practices. In response to students' requests, a further workshop will focus on the dos and don'ts of job interviews and how to present a professional approach to potential employers.
Graduates from the HKICPA's Qualification Programme will also share their experiences in accounting and non-accounting work.
The full-day event will include 18 exhibitors comprising CPA and commercial firms aiming to recruit fresh graduates. Forum participants are invited to submit their résumés to six participating firms, including the Big Four. Nearly 150 of these CVs will be randomly selected. Those chosen will be invited to attend an on-the-spot interview for an internship.
Guest speakers will also share their views with participants on career development and market trends in the accounting profession.
