Front- and back-of-house positions
Panda Hotel (Hopewell Holdings)

The Tsuen Wan-based Panda Hotel is hiring at all levels, from the position of director to managers and associates, including room sales, food and beverage and guest services, as well as back-of-house positions, such as engineers and technicians.

Recognised as a Caring Company, the hotel marks its 20th year in 2012 with special promotions. It is also hiring customer-oriented team players with pleasant personalities, positive attitudes and a willingness to serve.

"Applicants should be reliable, willing to take responsibility and have a sense of ownership. We also need people with a high EQ [emotional quotient], who can show empathy to guests," says Shirley Cheng, the hotel's human resources manager. "They should be detail oriented, courteous and friendly, and show integrity."

English, Cantonese and Putonghua are requirements, and any additional languages are welcome.

For new joiners, the hotel offers a two-day orientation programme to help them to understand the vision, mission and values, as well as the background of the Panda Hotel and its owner, Hopewell Holdings.

The hotel also organises a range of training, including conceptual training for better customer service, telephone and communication skills, and supervisory training that includes complaint and grievance handling.

Other courses and seminars include health and safety, and stress management training. The company also provides an education sponsorship and subsidy.

"Our philosophy is 'Home Away From Home' for customers and employees alike," Cheng says. "We provide different activities to maintain good communication with our staff."

Team activities bring staff closer, and include a monthly meeting with all employees, staff birthday parties, an annual staff outing, and Christmas family party, participation in Walks for Millions, and for sports-minded staff, badminton and bowling.
