Will past disputes cost me in my C-suite job search?

Despite being successful in my previous job running an advertising agency, I left under a cloud after several disagreements with the chairman. I have not spoken to him or any of the other board members since leaving, and I have taken a period of extended leave for nine months. I’m now applying for a C-level position at another agency which is very similar to the position I left. I know my past results and experience would land me the job, but I’m worried about the impact of my soured relationship with the previous board. Hong Kong is a small place after all. What is the best strategy to take?
