A group of students from The University of Hong Kong “Team Pawn Consulting” have won the North Asia final of the CGMA® Global Business Challenge (GBC) 2023 held at the City University of Macau. “Team HappyWomen” from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was named first runner-up, and “Team BJSD” from the City University of Macau and “Team Legend” from the University of Macau were named joint second runner-up.
First introduced in 2008, the CGMA GBC is a regional business competition aimed at full-time undergraduate students organised by AICPA® & CIMA®, together as the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants. This is the first time that the event is being held in person in North Asia following the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the final in Macau, teams were asked to develop business plans to solve a real-life business challenge and present them to a panel of Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA®) designation holders, experts in finance and business management, who evaluated and ranked each team’s submissions and presentation. It provides them with an opportunity to enhance their business, leadership, and problem-solving skills, and showcase their potential as future accounting, finance, digital, and business leaders.
Paulus Chau, Director – Hong Kong and Emerging Markets at AICPA & CIMA, said: “I’d like to congratulate Team Pawn Consulting from The University of Hong Kong on winning this year’s CGMA Global Business Challenge North Asia final. It was a great pleasure to hold this event in Macau for the very first time and see teams from all over the region deliver amazing performances – everyone can be proud of what they achieved. Thank you to the City University of Macau for being a great host and our judges for their commitment in supporting the next generation of leaders.”
Lina Chzhan, Leader of Team Pawn Consulting, The University of Hong Kong, said: “Through the CGMA Global Business Challenger 2023, we learned the importance of teamwork, communication, and good leadership. We developed a deeper understanding of the value of perseverance and adaptability in the face and gained confidence in our abilities to apply our skills in the business world. It has been an unforgettable and rewarding experience, we are grateful to have participated in such a prestigious competition and formed lasting connections with like-minded individuals.”
