Sheraton seeks frontline staff

Located in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui, Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel and Towers is in the process of hiring up to 40 staff.

Openings are available across the board for frontline staff, especially for roles as guest service agents, captains and house officers. Other vacancies include those for chef de partie and demi chef.

"Ideally, employees should look presentable, be willing to serve and have a pleasant personality and gentle character," says Albert Au, the hotel's director of human resources. "Candidates with a background in hospitality management or related areas are preferred, while graduates of hotel and catering management courses without full-time experience will be considered as trainees."

The hotel, which has 782 guest rooms and suites, provides on-the-job training for all new hires. Each person receives detailed instructions relevant to their position, and there are tests to ensure a high standard of performance.

New recruits also undertake the "Starwood Journey", the name given to the company's course on corporate culture.

It gives them knowledge of the brand, sets out the core values of the hotel, and explains ways to ensure guests have a comfortable stay.

"They will also undergo a course called 'Starwood Cares' which covers special service skills," Au says.

Subsequently, other training is also available for specific roles, including foreign languages, knowledge of wine, supervisory skills, team building, handling complaints and computing skills.
