Career Advice Successful High flyers’ story

Pursuing interests with an open mind to accumulate skills in today’s technology sector

Choosing a career path often involves some sort of balancing act – Is this sector booming? Will this be well compensated? Will this industry stay relevant overtime? Do I enjoy this type of work? Is this a ‘well-respected’ career path based on conventional matters?

Camille Baumann, Global Chief Client Officer at eWave, tells us about the time she first discovered her love for philosophy and how her peers laughed and thought she would join the unemployment queue because it wasn’t seen as a vocational degree.

Now a successful senior marketing professional for eWave, an eCommerce company based in Australia that works with global brands such as Toys “R” Us, Nike, Accent Group and others, Camille tells us how understanding and pursuing her interests in philosophy during her studies has helped develop essential skills for her role in technology and marketing – such as critical and analytical thinking skills, negotiation, understanding different mindsets, and seeing and solving problems from different perspectives. She boldly emphasizes the importance of always learning through pursuing interests and passions – taking advantage of that natural curiosity to learn new skills and apply it across different roles and situations.

The past year has brought unprecedented changes and maintaining this open and curious mind is important for resilience and getting ahead of the curve. Technology continues to play an increasing role in how industries, jobs and everyday lives continue to evolve, and Camille recognizes that the role of technology in not only saving lives but also making everyday life more convenient for all. This is why she chose to advance her career with a forward-looking company such as eWave.

Her position now involves multiple facets when it comes to challenges, and as the industry develops and evolves, it fuels Camille’s desire to continue learning and tackling new opportunities. From handling an acute talent shortage, advising clients on how to innovate while managing risks, to handling client’s technology investments in the right tools, a career in the tech world can be tiresome – or invigorating if you have a true passion for what technology can do to enhance industries and everyday lives.

With Camille’s consistent pursuit of new ideas and innovation, eWave was positioned as a great fit for her since the company is at the stage of growth – scaling from 300 people to global. Rather than joining a more traditional and established organization, eWave is young and hankering to take its spot on the global eCommerce stage.

Her team is full of specialized experts and as she’s said, she is “proud to join a team full of unicorns”. She can lean on each person to collaborate with particular skillsets, which is not always the case in companies that prefer to hire candidates with more general skills that can cover more bases.

From a passionate philosophy guru turned global technology marketer, Camille’s move into technology came naturally as part of her journey in pursuing genuine interests and keeping a curious mind to continue learning. Now at eWave, she’s able to bring all experiences in the past (including selling her MBA assignment to an iconic Sydney theme park), to continue adding to her portfolio of professional skillsets and bring eWave to its global stage.
