Morgan Stanley names M&A heads for natural resources

LONDON: Morgan Stanley has made leadership changes at its investment bank’s natural resources team, which includes mining and energy, according to an internal memo.

Richard Robinson and Andrew Wetenhall have been appointed co-heads of basic materials for the Americas, according to a memo sent out by Carl Contiguglia, head of Morgan Stanley’s Global Natural Resources Group.

Richard Chen and Chen Shen, a former BNP Paribas banker, will co-head energy investment banking in the Asia-Pacific region, Contiguglia said.

Michael O’Dwyer and Richard Tory have been named co-heads of energy deals in Europe. Tory came to Morgan Stanley from Credit Suisse Group in 2011, and will relocate to London next year. He will also be global head of mining.

Morgan Stanley’s investment-banking division generated US$945 million in first-quarter revenue, up 11 per cent from a year earlier, the company reported in April.

The bank ranked ninth among advisers on global mining and energy deals for the last 12 months, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

David Kotler remains leader of the European energy deals practice, working closely with Simon Parker, according to the memo.
