Vice-president and up to 50 academic and staff posts
Tung Wah College
The fast-expanding Tung Wah College (TWC) is hiring 40 to 50 new academic and administrative staff this year.
The college, which opened last year, is working on new programmes for accreditation and adding new courses to existing ones. At the same time, quality assurance requirements remain high. TWC aims to hire a vice-president, academic development and quality assurance, with a distinguished record of academic and administrative leadership. Reporting to the college president, the vice-president will ensure the infrastructure, proceedings and protocols for quality assurance are all in place.
"We have to involve quality assurance from the beginning at the design stage, as we develop the programme details for submission to Hong Kong Accreditation Service," explains Professor Thomas Wong, president of TWC, adding that the successful candidate needs to be highly creative and innovative in order to participate in academic planning and the development of the college's strategic plans.
The need has also arisen for a manager or assistant manager, quality assurance, who will work with the head of the quality assurance office in developing the internal academic quality assurance system, supporting the validation and re-validation of college programmes.
"The manager will also have to organise staff development programmes for the academics, and engage outside speakers and work with faculty members to achieve high quality," Wong says.
Assistant professors are also required in the fields of management and marketing.
Other opportunities include 18 positions in the new department of nursing and health sciences, from lecturers to professors in a wide range of specialisations. The department is launching its bachelor degree in nursing and gerontology, and needs first-rate team players who are creative and innovative agents of change. They will be required to develop a new integrated programme with the focus on trans-disciplinary learning - a new teaching concept pioneered by TWC.
The college offers remuneration similar to other tertiary institutions, as well as very strong support for further studies and career development.
