With the end of the academic year rapidly approaching for students at Hong Kong’s tertiary institutions, the time to start making decisions on critical issues such as post-graduation employment and summer internships has well and truly arrived.
That’s one of the reasons why the recent Classified Post Career Forum was a hotbed of activity, with attendees keen to take advantage of the host of recruitment prospects, career development seminars and networking opportunities on offer.
More than 30 organisations joined the forum on 15 March at the InnoCentre in Kowloon Tong to share career advice, talk about vacancies and showcase trainee programmes, covering industries including finance, retail, entertainment, law enforcement, engineering, mobile gaming, aviation, and many more.
Meanwhile, a line-up of topical seminars saw experts take to the stage to share their industry insight and introduce their companies to enthusiastic attendees.
As always, a major draw of the forum was the opportunity to take part in the Shadow a CEO Programme selection process. The programme gives successful applicants the opportunity to spend three days working side by side one of Hong Kong’s top senior executives, seeing what it takes to succeed in the upper echelons of the business world and picking up invaluable advice on management and leadership.
Shortlisted applicants were interviewed at the forum by representatives from recruitment specialist Robert Walters, with 21 making it through to final interviews with the programme’s participating companies. Up to 15 of these will ultimately be selected to shadow one of five senior executives from four companies: Fung Group, Thales, United Overseas Bank (Hong Kong) and UA Cinema Circuit.
Robert Walters was also on hand to dish out résumé recommendations in its role as onsite “CV Doctors”. Dozens of attendees visited the firm’s booth to get one-on-one expert advice on improving their CVs – from highlighting key character traits to tailoring CVs to different employers.
This time the forum was extra special as it also played host to the inaugural Young Marketer of Tomorrow contest, co-organised by Classified Post and Emperor Group. The semi-final round saw 28 student teams present creative digital marketing plans, with six finalists later battling it out for the honour of being the contest’s first winners.
